2005 Season - Week 16

Play-Off Picture More In Focus

Things became much clearer this week with 5 of the 6 AFC places now clinched. Indi and Denver have the bye week, Cincinnati and New England have won their divisions and Jacksonville are in as a wildcard. Pittsburgh hold a 1 game lead over Kansas City in the chase for the final post-season spot. The NFC is slightly more muddled. Seattle and Chicago have the bye week and the Giants are in the play-offs, they will clinch the East if they win Saturday or Washington lose Sunday. In the South Tampa Bay have the tie-breaker lead over Carolina, with both teams 10-5. The Redskins (9-6) are in the 6th seed spot at the moment and Dallas, also 9-6, are also still alive. AP In Hall, Mark Fumbles The Ball 1 week after being picked up as an IR replacement Samkon Gado went down to a knee injury and AP picked up San Francisco rookie Frank Gore. Gore scored 2 TDs and helped AP to his 8th appearance in the Hall of Fame which equals Mark for the most visits to the Marble Halls. Mark who was top with 2 weeks to go saw his players combine for just 8 points and he collapsed to 6th in the table. An eye-witness report states the players performance really upset Mark’s Christmas Day. Record Performance Very late in the final Monday Night Football game on ABC a little bit of history was made as Vinny Testaverde threw a TD pass to Laveraneus Coles. It was his first TD pass of the season (he was retired until the Jets QB injury woes mid-season) but with that TD he surpassed Johnny Unitas and Fran Tarkenton as the first QB ever to throw a TD in 20 consecutive seasons. Vinny is the 6th most prolific passer in NFL history and Johnny thinks he should be in the Hall of Fame. BUMS on Seats. There are 2 games on Saturday Night (Broncos @ Chargers and Giants @ Raiders). That’s New Years Eve so we will be out getting drunk rather than watching the games. On Sunday we will be at BUMS HQ from 6pm for an important Sky doubleheader of Carolina @ Atlanta followed by Washington @ Philadelphia. Both visitors can claim a post-season birth with a win. Should Washington lose then Dallas will be playing for a play-off birth when they host St Louis in the late Sunday game which we will watch on Monday, venue to be determined. There is no game on Monday Night.
